Opportunities to Volunteer 

Events-Holiday, Fundraising, Outreach

Population: Low-income Individuals and Families, Potential Donors, Potential Clients
Frequency: Multiple times yearly
Time Commitment: Varies-typically 2-5 Hours
Responsibility: Volunteers will assist with packaging items for clients, running family carnival, set-up and take down for events, etc.  Volunteers are bound to protect client confidentiality.

Special Requirements: Volunteer must be willing to complete a background check and fingerprinting. Volunteers for outreach events must agree to go through training and learn more about HopeLink services.  Some physical ability to lift and carry food bags, packages, etc.    

Volunteers are the heart of HopeLink.

Greg FreemanOur agency began as an all-volunteer group of folks who cared about the needs of their neighbors. Our board of directors and each of the six board committees are volunteer driven. Each of our events is carried out through the efforts and generosity of volunteers.

Family Support Services-Family/Child Mentoring

Population: Families involved with or at risk of involvement with the Child Welfare System.
Frequency: Once per week
Time Commitment: 2 Hours-flexible, based on scheduling with family
Responsibility: Volunteers will mentor families and children in a variety of areas, assisting with budgeting, planning, parenting, positive family interaction, etc.  Time may also include tutoring/assistance for children with school work.  Volunteers are bound to protect client confidentiality and complete documentation and services as a case manager would.  Volunteers will meet with clients one-on-one.   
Special Requirements: Volunteer must be willing to complete a background check and fingerprinting.  Volunteer will receive special training and must adhere strictly to boundaries established by staff. 

Breakfast Bookworm

Population: Elementary School Aged Children
Frequency: 1 Wednesday Morning Per Month
Time Commitment: 2 Hours-7 am – 9 am
Responsibility: Volunteer will assist with the Breakfast Bookworm Program, a before-school family literacy program.  Duties involve assisting with set-up and distribution of food and books for children and families, helping families remain attentive during the program, and clean-up after the program. 

Special Requirements: Volunteer must be willing to complete a background check and fingerprinting.  Some physical ability to lift and carry medium weight boxes (15-30 pounds) needed. 

Basic Needs-Food, Clothing, Transportation Assistance

Population: Low-income Individuals and Families
Frequency: 1 Half-day per week
Time Commitment: 3 Hours-9 am – 12 noon or 1 pm to 4 pm
Responsibility: Volunteers will assist clients with basic needs services. Volunteers will be documenting in and creating client files, and will receive training to complete correctly.  Volunteers are bound to protect client confidentiality and complete documentation and services as a case manager would.  Volunteers will meet with clients one-on-one, with each appointment lasting 10-30 minutes.   
Special Requirements: Volunteer must be willing to complete a background check and fingerprinting.  Some physical ability to lift and carry food bags, accurately fill out paperwork, and attend volunteer hours regularly required.   

Back 2 School

Population: Children Pre-k through 12 grade from low-income families
Frequency: Annually, April through August
Time Commitment: 5-10 Hours per week April – July, 10-20 hours per week August and all week August 17-22.
Responsibility: Volunteer will assist with all aspects of planning, communication, and execution of community-wide Back 2 School Event, with specific responsibility for outreach to potential donors and sponsors to program, as well as matching of donors to children in the program.  Responsibilities also include management of extensive database, communication and coordination with community partners, and volunteer coordination. 
Special Requirements: Volunteer will receive special training and must adhere strictly to boundaries established by staff.

HopeLink's board has a range of committees which are always in need of talented and willing volunteers. You do not need a special skill within your area of interest, simply a desire to help the community. Marketing/public relations, development/fundraising, programming (in relation to agency programs), volunteer development/management. Mentor/help with homework.

Do you have a gift for working with children that need help with math, reading, or the Nevada State Proficiency Exam? You don’t need to be a teacher, just a willingness to share your skills and guide children to resources. We are always in need of on-site homework volunteers for 2pm to 5pm time periods.
